Tom Moddy was the head coach of the Hyderabad team who served until 2019. He has been replaced by Trevor Bayliss, who has previously led to two IPL titles win between 2012 and 2015. SRH has also roped in new assistant coach Brad Haddin, who was the KKR player in 2011. Haddin has prior coaching experience with Australia, having been appointed fielding coach of the side in 2017 after coaching Australia A that year.
Muttiah Muralitharan hopeful Trevor Bayliss will do a better job:
Muttiah Muralitharan, who was coached by Bayliss when played for the Sri Lanka team, has welcomed the inclusion of new coaching staff. He said that the addition of Trevor Bayliss as head coach could mean a different way of thinking. Murali hoped that the former KKR coach would do a better job.
“I know him, he had coached me as well for four years in Sri Lanka. We know each other and I think it is a new addition and it is a different way of thinking,” Muttiah Muralitharan said in the video posted on SRH’s official Twitter handle.
“In the last seven years, Tom was very good with us and hopefully, Trevor Bayliss will do a better job,” the bowling coach said.
SRH has won its maiden and only IPL title in 2016 after beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the grand finale. In 2018, they entered the great finale of the tournament but MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings defeated them. Last year, they failed to qualify in the playoff and ended at the fourth position in the points table.
David Warner led SRH is a potential contender for winning title. They will play their first match of the tournament against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 21 September.
